World Handwash Day

Today is 15 October which is considered World Handwash Day. This day is celebrated in schools every year to teach students how to wash their hands properly to maintain hygiene and why it’s important to maintain.

Why Handwash Necessary

Many viruses and germs can infectious and can spread diseases from one infected person to a healthy person by their contaminated hands. These diseases can be gastrointestinal infections such as salmonella, respiratory infections such as influenza, and nowadays most contagious Covid19 diseases caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. People who are infected with the coronavirus experienced mild and moderate respiratory illness. Washing your hands properly can help prevent the spread of the germs (like bacteria and viruses) that cause these diseases.

When To Wash Your Hands

  • After using the toilet or changing nappies we should wash our hands properly with soap. Before, during, and after preparing food we should wash our hands.
  • Always wash your hand or use sanitizer after touching any surface.
  • Before and after attending to a sick person we should wash our hands.
  • After touching/handling animals we should wash our hands
  • After handling rubbish or working in the garden we should wash our hands.                                                                                      World Handwash Day

How to wash your hands

  • First of all, wet your hands with clean, running water.
  • Apply soap & lather well and rub your hands at least 20-30 seconds.
  • Rub hand together rapidly palms, the backside of the hands and in between the fingers and rub your wrist too
  • If possible remove your ring and watch so that you can clean your hands properly.
  • Rinse well under running water and remove all traces of soap.
  • Dry your hand with a towel but that must be a single-use cloth towel or you can air-dry your hands (hot air drier can be used)
  • Always try to wash your hand under running water 

Take care of your hand

Hand washing is best as part of hygiene. But remember hand washing can affect your skin due to some chemicals used in soap making.

  • Apply water-based absorbent cream every time after washing your hands.
  • You can use liquid soap as well if bar soap affecting your skin
  • Over-washing can cause dryness of skin and scaly skin to avoid this you can use sanitizer instead of soap and water.

Try to teach your kids these simple steps to wash their hands it will help them to maintain hygiene and protect them from all infectious diseases.
