Once upon a time the wrath of Lord Indra, he is the God of rains. In Vrindavan there was rained continuously for many days nonstop.

Because of heavy rain, Vridhavan was flooded. People of Vrindavan went to Lord Krishna for resolving the problem. Then Lord Krishna with all the Vrindavan visit went toward Govardhan hill.

Then he lifted Govardhan hill on his little finger. And under this all the Vrindavan vaasi took refuge. Lord Krishna stood there for seven days without eating anything and even without moving. Once the rained stop, people devoted the 56 food items to him and showing love for him by this.

Little Krishna grew up in Yashoda and Nandbaba house. Both of them love him a lot. He and his gang were so naughtiest children among all children in the neighborhoods.

He loved white butter so much. So he often stole all the butter that Yashoda amma would make at home.  That’s why to date, Makhan’s mishri (white butter and sugar crystals) is one of the popular parades on this occasion. This is specially made for the deity on Krishna Janmashthami.

The festival of Janmashthami encourages goodwill and dissuade ill feelings. in India there is a belief that Lord Krishna is Vishnu’s eighth avatar and also he was the eighth child of Devki and Vasudev. that is the main reason why the janmashthmi celebrate on eighth (ashthmi) day of the fortnight.
