Studying at Delhi University has become more challenging since they’ve changed the rules for undergraduate students to graduate. Now, students must work harder to score higher marks in their exams because earlier, they were promoted to the next session upon achieving 50%. However, this rule has been changed, and now they need to score 63%. This rule has been implemented in every college affiliated with Delhi University. Consequently, studying has become more difficult for students as they will not be promoted if they fail to achieve 50%.
Earlier, students needed to score only 50% combined in both semesters to easily get promoted to the next session. However, now they must achieve 63% combined in both semesters to be promoted; otherwise, they will not be promoted.
Which students will benefit from this exemption?
Delhi University has introduced a new program structure (UGCF) under the new National Education Policy 2022 for its undergraduate programs. Students involved in sports, NCC, NSS, or any other activities may receive exemptions under this rule.
THE COMMITTEE OF 12 MEMBERS….
In response to this issue, Delhi University has formed a committee comprising 12 members. It includes principals from various DU colleges such as Miranda House, Kirori Mal College, Lady Shriram College, among others. The committee also includes deans, academic representatives, and the CEO (Controller of Examination). The committee held its meeting on May 7th and formulated some recommendations, which were subsequently approved by DU Vice- Chancellor Yogesh Singh on May 28th.
The committee has stated that there are disagreement in the NEP- UGCF 2022 which are not appropriate for the objectives of the students. Therefore, the committee has recommended that this passing rule in DU be reviewed and approved.
THIS STUDENT WILL ALSO RECEIVE PROMOTION.
Officials at Delhi University have stated that if credits are distributed unequally due to any reason, and then a student scores 36% in three papers across both semesters and one general elective, they will be considered passed.
WHY DID THIS RULE COME ABOUT?
The official from Delhi University has said that they are facing difficulties in implementing the UGCF (Undergraduate Curriculum Framework) as per the National Education Policy. When this news was reported in the media, the university decided to create new rules so that the UGCF could be implemented effectively.
