The idea of Hawa Mahal came when the maharaja saw the structure of Khetri Mahal in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan and through that structure, he was so impressed that he decided to build a palace modelled on it.

The design of Hawa Mahal was an architect by Lal Chand Ustad. It is one of its kind pyramid structure, a 5-storeyed building which represents a pattern of a Beehive and it has 953 small windows called Jharokhas decorated with intricate latticework.
