MALIK Movie Review : Mahesh Narayan and Fahadh Faasil Have Delivered Another Gem

Malik, a complex political drama mystery film starring  Fahad Faasil, Nimisha Sajayan, Dileesh Pothan, and Joju Goerge, directed by Mahesh Narayanan.

The movie is about a young boy who is raised in the world of crime eventually and becomes the godfather of the community that he protects.

The film is properly an epic crime saga.

Fahadh Faasil who is playing the lead role in the movie played his characters into a slumping sparkler of a film, done with great fluidity, and backed by solid performances.

Fahadh Faasil is simply excellent in the Amazon Prime film. He and Nimisha Sajayan are narrating the tale of one man who wants to keep his community united against nature.

The approach of the plot is kind of similar to Mani Ratnam’s movie Nayakan, because here too our hero is protesting the dislocation (movement) of his people and fighting for their land rights. He also takes the law into his own hands when he thinks it suits him, but there is always a price to pay and an enemy who is strong and he had never imagined.

The set of the movie is placed between 1965 and 2018 in the fictional fishing village of Ramadapally In Kerala, where Suleiman Malik (Fahadh Fassil) is narrating the tale of Malik(his own) who was the messiah for his fisherfolk of the village.

The movie starts when Suleiman Ali Ikka (Fahadh Fassil) is set to make a pilgrimage to Hajj after announcing the illegal activities in his 50’s. He was leaving the life behind of crime that he had led, but with a strong moral center always.

If we talk about the character, his dialogue, “I have to quit all unholy work, so from whom should I fear now? If someone above me is waiting to kill me, let it happen” gives us a strong glimpse of how powerful the character is but still flawed at the same time.

Although the movie Malik has beautifully enhanced each one of the characters, whether it is Suleiman’s wife, Rosalyn role played by Nimisha Sajayan, the sub-collector, Anwar Ali role played by Joju Goerge, or Suleiman’s best friend, David Christudas role played by Vinay Fort.

Suleiman’s wife Rosalyn’s character is also very strong, she is a strong woman and the only woman in the village who has gone to college. She was even more educated than her husband.

She is a vicious woman who knows what she wants. She was the pillar of strength of his husband who stood by his husband through his rise and was always there for him.

Nimisha Sajayan played the role very well, she is a power-packed actress in the film industry.

The movie is quite long and also has some confusing elements but Malik reflected the important issues of that time in a spellbinding way, like politicians manipulating people, this body (part) can be found (explored) in many different ways.

The movie is now streaming on Amazon Prime and it is a must-watch movie.
