Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who was the 11th President of the country, is a source of inspiration for crores of Indians. Dr. Kalam had a great influence on the youth and after leaving the presidency, he started working in the field of education.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam belonged to the Muslim religion but he was a secular person at heart and he believed that the religion of humanity is greater than all religions.

This is the reason that October 15, the birthday of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, was declared by the United Nations as World Students Day in the year 2010. Today is the death anniversary of the former President of the country, who is also known as Missile Man. In such a situation, we will tell you about some interesting facts related to the life of Dr. Kalam, which you may not know about.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam played an important role in the second nuclear test in Pokhran. Dr. Kalam was given the title of Missile Man for his outstanding contribution to the country’s missile project. The credit for the development of Agni and Prithvi missiles goes to Dr. Kalam only.

While interacting with the children, he asked who wanted to go into politics. But very few hands were raised in the answer to this question. Then asked who would become a scientist, doctor, and engineer, almost all hands were raised. Kalam sahib smiled at that time and said that no field is bad nor should it be underestimated. He said that wherever you go, give your hundred percent. In his school, which lasted for about two hours, the children listened to him with full devotion. At last, he got down from the stage and mingled with the children.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s Life Journey 

Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha was renamed Abdul Kalam Island in 2015 to honor Dr. Kalam. Let us tell you that India’s Integrated Test Range missile testing takes place on this island. Earlier this island was named after the British Commander Lieutenant Wheeler.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He received 7 doctoral degrees from 40 universities. For his contribution to ISRO and DRDO, Dr. Kalam was awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990.

In the year 1997, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honor.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam did not have a TV. His personal belongings only included books, a harp, a CD player, and a laptop.

Dr. Kalam visited NASA in 1963 and after that, he completed the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and SLV-3 project.

Dr. Kalam wrote a total of 18 books and 22 poems.

He suffered a heart attack and died on 27 July 2015 while delivering a lecture to students at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Will Always be Remembered

People still remember that he answered each question of the children very beautifully. Everyone was in awe of his wisdom and prompt response. For a moment no one could believe that he was with a great scientist of the world.

Even though he is not in this world today, his memories are still in the mind of Gorakhpur. People remember how despite holding such a high position, pride could never touch them. He remained among the children throughout his life and kept motivating them to move towards the goal.

During the program, as soon as he climbed on the stage, he said ‘Hello friends, thanks all of you, the whole hall erupted with applause. The faces of thousands of children sitting in front of Kalam also lit up. Then, without any formalities, he started teaching lessons to the children in his own unique style in the smart class. He said that only goals, knowledge, hard work, and struggle can bring success.

On 27 July 2015, President Dr. Kalam left for the universe which he used to say “Look at the sky”. We are not alone. The universe is our friend.” Perhaps it would not be an exaggeration to say that Dr. Abdul Kalam was among those who coined a new definition of the post of President.
