Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam played an important role in the second nuclear test in Pokhran. Dr. Kalam was given the title of Missile Man for his outstanding contribution to the country’s missile project. The credit for the development of Agni and Prithvi missiles goes to Dr. Kalam only.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam’s full name was Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam. He received 7 doctoral degrees from 40 universities. For his contribution to ISRO and DRDO, Dr. Kalam was awarded Padma Bhushan in the year 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990.

In the year 1997, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian honor.

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam did not have a TV. His personal belongings only included books, a harp, a CD player, and a laptop.

Dr. Kalam visited NASA in 1963 and after that, he completed the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and SLV-3 project.

Dr. Kalam wrote a total of 18 books and 22 poems.

He suffered a heart attack and died on 27 July 2015 while delivering a lecture to students at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.
